As for photography we may say there is fine art photography and fine art printing. The definition of fine art photography is very controversial but I woud summarize as that one photography technically correct, which can impress its observer by the beauty and being well accepetd by the market.
Currently many photographers entitle themselves fine art with the objetctive of promoting themselves, but indeed, what defines a fine art photographer? Selling overvalued photos? Being recognized in the photographic world? Having one, two or twenty photos in your portfolio which have been "accepted" as fine art? In my opinion, there is no fine art photographer, only photography and printing.
Regarding the fine art printing, it could be defined as the one that follows the required criteria by galleries, museums and collectors with the target of preserve the work the best way possible. In our work flow we prefer papers with cotton fibers and Canson canvas. Canson's history has begun more than 300 years ago in France and has become known worldwide for the quality of noble papers they produce. A well printed and well framed work made less for more than 100 years without losing its characteristics. You may pass it on to your children, grandchildren or eventually sell it to a gallery or collector, but you must take special care with its preservation. It made seem exaggerated, but any paper contaminition with bacterias, fungus, chemical products, and acidity, fixer or wood contact used for framing will end up interfering in this process. Therefore, avoid touching the printing without wearing gloves, keep away sunlight, avoid heat, humidity, dust and be very careful with its frames. The paper must not be in contact with the wood, because the wood contains acidic ph and lignina, a substance that will deterirate the paper. Look for a professional with good references in the framing market and avoid removing the printing from its package untill its preparation for framing.
